Municipal Jayaque que queda frente al palacio municipal o a la alcaldía y la
parroquia, pasa alegre por los niños que juegan con sus padres. Los fines de
semanas pasa más alegre porque se
hacen tour del café en el día o en la noche.

De acuerdo a
crónicas municipales del siglo XX, los pobladores de este sitio ocupaban el
territorio de Opico, pero lo abandonaron debido a <<varias plagas>>
a inicio del siglo XVll. En 1770, según Pedro Cortez y Lara, la aldea era
habitada por 578 personas. Forma parte del departamento de la libertad a partir
del 28 de enero de 1865, y obtuvo el título de ciudad el 18 de mayo de 1926.
El
Municipio de Jayaque tiene un área de 47.5km2 y tiene una altitud de 980 MS/NM.
El nombre nahuat Jayaque, shaycat o
Xayacatepeque tendría los significados de<<cerro de los en
mascarados>>. Cuenta con dos fiestas al año, en Enero se celebra la
fiesta copatronal en honor a San Sebastián Mártir del 18 al 26 de Enero, en el
mes de Julio se celebran las fiestas patronales en honor a san Cristóbal y san
Lucas del 20 al 26 de Julio. Asimismo, junto a los vecinos de cuisnahuat y
tepecoyo donde se disfruta de una sabrosa chicha, es una bebida fermentada a
base de frutas que es prohíba en el resto de El Salvador debido al alto grado
de alcohol que posee, pero no es prohibido en Jayaque ya que es una tradición
de muchísimos años y sus festividades son muy coloridas.

La tierra de
los cumpas, Jayaque, en el Departamento de La Libertad, es uno de los
